The AGRANA Research & Innovation Center (ARIC) is the R&D company of AGRANA and acts as an interdisciplinary research institute in the area of sugar, starch and fruit located in Tulln, Austria. Our goal is to provide innovation, scientific research, technologies and application expertises across food, beverage, cosmetics and other industrial markets supporting AGRANA and our customers in their future strategy.

The AGRANA Research & Innovation Center GmbH is currently looking for a dedicated person who wants to join our Team for a limited duration of 6 months for doing a Master Thesis on the subject Concentration of Sugar Thin Juice with Membrane Technology.

Your Master Thesis:

• The process of sugar production includes thickening of thin juice to obtain thick juice for crystallization. Currently, thin juice is concentrated by water evaporation, an energy intensive process that requires fossil fuels for heating.
• Membrane technology is a promising option to move away from fossil fuels by electrifying the process and reduction of the total energy demand.
• In this master thesis, membrane technology will be tested on a pilot scale in the factory Tulln. Membrane filtration will be evaluated for fouling and scaling during beet processing campaign in autumn and winter 2023. You will work in a team with motivated researchers in an international industry environment and gather experience by testing this promising future technology in practice.
• The thesis can be written in German or English language.

Your profile:

• Currently studying in a master programm of sciences (food technology, chemistry or similar)
• Hands-on-mentality and solution-oriented approach required
